Lindsay Hickling (b.1997) is an Australian artist living and working on Gadigal land within Eora Country (Sydney,NSW). Lindsay is a graduate of the National Art School, Sydney and is currently employed by the Inner West Council. She previously studied a Bachelor of Creative Writing and Philosophy at Macquarie University and is currently applying to undergo further study for a Masters of Studio art. Her recent group exhibitions were held at the Library Gallery during NAS NEO, The Art Gallery of New South Wales, The Goodspace Gallery and St Vincents Hospital.
Hickling completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2023 majoring in photomedia. Her major work was a project, titled "I Fall Away,". It is an art investigation into the complex interplay between mental health, self-perception, and ‘reality’. It is informed and inspired by the tragic loss of a friend and her subsequent reflections on the disconnect that mental health issues can create between an individual's self-perception and the collective reality. The work aims to explore the emotional and psychological aspects of this disconnect, using the medium of kinetic mirror sculpture to create an immersive, interactive experience with the audience. It also focuses on activating the space between viewer and artwork to reconsider a possible new relationship between the two, which she is looking to explore further in her Masters Research.
